The services provided by Sentinel Aviation are based on over 20 years of experience in the public safety aviation profession. Bryan Smith is a retired Chief Pilot of a major US law enforcement agency who flew and taught in rotorcraft, fixed wing and unmanned aircraft on a variety of mission sets, including patrol, surveillance, transport, hoist rescue and firefighting.
Bryan was also the Safety Program Manager for the Airborne Public Safety Association from 2012 to 2022. During this time, he established and delivered training on numerous safety topics around the world. Through his collaboration with industry initiatives, including the International Helicopter Safety Team, he created a Safety Management System program that numerous public safety agencies use today.
In response to the 2015 NTSB recommendations to Public Safety Aviation, Bryan developed and conducted aviation unit audits for local, county and state agencies of all sizes and compositions.
In 2017, Bryan was awarded the Helicopter Association International’s Aerospace Safety Award. In 2022, he was further honored by the Airborne Public Safety Association as the recipient of their annual Safety Award.
In addition to over 70 published magazine articles and more than 120 monthly newsletters, Bryan is the author of the book Air Support Safety.
